OUr Story

Neshama's original sound reflects the beauty of the Adirondack mountains where the band grew up. Best characterized as progressive bluegrass/country/Americana, their stunning melodies and high-energy instrumentals have captivated audiences of all ages.

Lead vocalist, Travis Bartow, picked up several instruments (guitar, mandolin, violin) at a young age and soon began to write his own uniquely beautiful music. His skills were honed under the tutelage of Albany Symphony concertmaster, Jill Levy.

Johnny Newell (who says his spirit-instrument is the banjo) began writing music with Travis when they were young teenagers, adding even richer complexity to Travis’s sound. Johnny now has a B. A. in music composition and also plays bouzouki, banjo, and guitar.

Isaac began playing piano at the age of six and joined the band after studying under accomplished country pedal-steel man, Randy Rollman. Isaac lends his own distinct style to the band, which is as fresh as the air he grew up breathing.

Neshama’s first single, “The Journey,” charted on both inspirational and Christian Country national charts. Neshama was honored to perform at the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville, TN in 2018, and won the 2017 ICMA national talent competition. They are currently working on a third album.

“Neshama," the Hebrew word for "soul" is derived from the Genesis account of creation, when God breathed "neshama" into man, giving him life.
